1. Introduction

LEGO Sumo 1kg competition challenges teams to build powerful sumo robots using only LEGO components.

2. Competition Overview

Robots compete in sumo-style matches on a circular dohyo, attempting to push opponents out of the ring.

2.1. Team Structure

Maximum 5 team members, with only one operator allowed during matches.

2.2. Age Categories

  • Elementary (6-10): Basic LEGO sets allowed
  • Middle School (10-14): Standard LEGO Mindstorms
  • High School (14-18): Advanced LEGO techniques

3. Robot Requirements

3.1. Construction Rules

  • 100% LEGO: Only official LEGO parts allowed
  • Weight Limit: Maximum 1kg including all components
  • Size Limit: Must fit in 15cm×15cm square at start
  • Expansion: Robot may expand after match starts

4. Dohyo Specifications

4.1. Ring Dimensions

  • Diameter: 77cm wooden circle
  • Color: Black center (72cm) with white border (2.5cm)
  • Height: 2-5cm above ground level
  • Surface: Smooth, matte finish

5. Match Rules

5.1. Match Format

Best of 3 rounds, each round maximum 30 seconds. Robot that wins 2 rounds wins the match.

5.2. Victory Conditions

  • Push opponent completely off the dohyo
  • Opponent becomes immobile for 10+ seconds
  • Opponent falls apart or stops functioning

5.3. Starting Procedure

  • 5-second countdown for autonomous start
  • Robots must be placed touching the white line
  • 30-second adjustment period before each round

6. Safety and Fair Play

6.1. Prohibited Actions

  • Damaging opponent's robot intentionally
  • Using sticky substances on wheels
  • Remote control during autonomous phase
Safety: Protective eyewear required for all participants.
